Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, is a popular mountain over 6000m high among climbers. Its unique shape resembles an island in a snowy sea, which is how it got its name from British Expedition members who spotted it from Dingboche. Island Peak's summit rewards climbers with stunning panoramic views of iconic Himalayan peaks like Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu, making it a sought-after peak for mountaineers seeking both a technical challenge and breathtaking scenery.
The trek to Island Peak starts like the route to Everest until Dingboche. Then, climbers head to Chhukung for Island Peak while Everest climbers go to Lobuche and the Everest Base Camp. The whole trail is amazing and special, with incredible mountain views and the refreshing Himalayan air and also the challenging one. You'll love seeing the plants and animals in Sagarmatha National Park along the way too. The prime time for climbing Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, is during Autumn (September to November) and Spring (March to May).
